What Are the Symptoms of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome?

If you are suffering from chronic fatigue syndrome, then you will most likely agree that the name is inappropriate. Although CFS does produce debilitating, chronic fatigue, the symptoms go far beyond fatigue. As a result, your friends, family, and coworkers probably have no idea what you suffer from on a daily basis.

A person suffering from chronic fatigue syndrome will experience four or more of the following symptoms:

  • Extreme debilitating fatigue and exhaustion
  • Short-term memory loss
  • Difficulty concentrating (Brain Fog)
  • Frequent sore throats
  • Swollen, sore lymph nodes
  • Muscle and joint pain (Fibromyalgia)
  • Headaches
  • Unrefreshing sleep and difficulty staying awake
  • Low-grade fevers
  • Multi-chemical sensitivity (MCS)
  • Dizziness, balance problems, and fainting
  • Inability to recover from exercise
  • Depression and irritability

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, a proper diagnosis involves ruling out other illnesses that may have similar symptoms such as:

  • Lyme disease,
  • rheumatoid arthritis,
  • multiple sclerosis,
  • diabetes,
  • hypothyroidism,
  • mononucleosis,
  • lupus,
  • chronic hepatitis.

For some, life is manageable, but for most the symptoms of chronic fatigue syndrome make life unmanageable.

As with any severe chronic condition, depression is always a concern. Although chronic fatigue syndrome is not considered fatal, a percentage of fatalities from this condition are associated with suicide. Sadly, sometimes the suffering becomes unbearable.

There is hope!

I describe my personal 10-year experience with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome in two parts: A 7-year journey tumbling into the depths of pain and illness, multiple surgeries, massive amounts of medications, never-ending doctor appointments, doubt and worry, financial ruin, and hopelessness, followed by a 3-year journey of hope transformed into faith, renewed physical strength, restored health and wellness, self-empowerment, and unexpected magical and mystical life transformations.

If you think you are suffering from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, (also known as Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME), the first step is to get a proper diagnosis from a qualified medical professional. Unfortunately, some doctors use CFS/ME as a “catch-all” diagnosis when no other conclusion seems apparent.

It’s essential to your health and well-being to make sure you have a qualified doctor who rules out all other conditions first. Watch this video about Choosing the Right Doctor to Treat Your Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
